It's Monday, and that means all there is available to watch is Monday Night Football. Because of a lack of options to write about, I have decided to recap the events taking place in this week in sports. We start with baseball, a week ago the White Sox were up 1 game on the Tigers, now the Tigers magic # is one. The Baltimore Orioles made up 1 game this week, and tied the Yankees at the top of the division. Oakland cut Texas's lead from 5 to 2 games, and secured the final AL wild card spot. St. Louis should be securing the final wild card spot soon, their magic number is 2.
AL EAST WINNER: Baltimore/Yankees
AL CENTRAL WINNER: Tigers 3 games up on White Sox. Magic # is 1.
AL WEST WINNER: Texas up 2 games on A's. With 3 to play. Magic # is 2.
WILD CARD: Yankees/Baltimore and A's magic # is 1 on Rays and Angels.
NL EAST WINNER: Braves
NL CENTRAL WINNER: Reds
NL WEST WINNER: San Francisco
NL WILD CARD: Atlanta and St Louis is 2 games up on Dodgers.
We had our biggest upset of the week when (2-1) Washington beat #8 Stanford (3-0). Washington scored 14 straight points as they won 17-13. Kasen Williams put Washington on his back, with 130 yards on 10 reception. Washington receivers other than Williams put up 40 combined. They also had Bishop Sankey run for 144 yards on 20 carries. Geno Smith was this weeks star, throwing for 656 yards and 8 TDS as WV beat Baylor 70-63. Tennessee nearly upset #5 Georgia, as both teams played each other fairly even. If Tennessee was at home, this game could have been a big upset. OSU knocked off MSU in a defensive battle 17-16, with Braxton Miller running for 136 yards and throwing for 179 and a TD. #18 Oregon State edged Arizona, 38-35 on a last minute TD, and #19 Louisville edged win less Southern Miss 21-17, despite Louisville not getting one PAT (2 missed Pats and missed 2 PT conversion). And it took a TD from #12 Texas with 0:29 left in the fourth quarter, to knock off offensive Juggernaut Oklahoma State. The NFL consisted of many dramatic finishes. The Giants lost to the Eagles by 2, after a controversial offensive pass interference call on the Giants, knocked them out of Lawrence Tynes limited field goal range. Meanwhile the Falcons edged the Panthers by two, off a 40 yard game winner by Matt Bryant. The star of this game was Roddy White, who had 8 catches for 169 yards and 2 TDs. Charles Johnson, Panthers defensive end, had 3.5 sacks. The Pats rallied from down 21-7 to win 52-28, Tom Brady threw for 340 yards and 3 TDs. The Vikings upset the Lions 20-13, as AP ran for another 100 yards. Billy Cundiff hit a 41 yard game winner as the Redskins beat the Buccaneers 24-22. Despite a few poor calls, the Packers were still able to edge New Orleans, 28-27, even though Drew Brees threw for 446 yards and 3 TDs. The Cardinals stayed undefeated, even with the Dolphins gaining 200 more yards then them. The Cardinals scored a touchdown with 20 seconds left to tie, and Jay Feely hit a 46 yarder in OT to win. The Rams also upset the Seahawks at home, 19-13, led by their kicker Greg Zuerlein, who hit from 60, 58, and 48. The Europeans also pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in Ryder Cup history. Down by 4 points, heading into Sunday, the Europeans were able to pull of the "Miracle at Medinah." The US only won 3/12 matches on Sunday, despite not losing a segment before Sunday. The US missed crucial puts down the stretch, as the US only won 1 hole combined all day on 17-18. That's 1 win and 23 ties and losses. I guess chocking just runs in the USA's blood, just kidding, but Stricker and Furyk both missed easy puts on 17 and 18, that could have guaranteed the US the cup. The Europeans won 14.5/13.5 to retain the cup.
